What is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word “summer”? Well, holidays, of course!
Or “iced coffee” if you adore caffeine just as much as I do…
As summer is slowly approaching to its end (I’m sorry for being a bad news bearer), we have less and less time to enjoy a nice summer holiday somewhere near the beach or in the middle of the mountains. That’s why I decided to write a blog post on the best summer holiday destinations for the last minute trip. All of the destinations mentioned below are not only cheap compared to many but also have a big variety of attractions that you can see and explore.
The destinations are Europe based and visited by yours truly. I picked three places that, in my opinion, are the best ones for a great summer holiday in Europe. I’ve been there, I’ve explored it and now I’m encouraging you to go there. Enjoy!
Cyprus
The island of the famous Aphrodite is one of the most dazzling places to visit in Europe. Sandy beaches, crystal clear water, mountains – Cyprus has it all. I went to Cyprus 2 or so years ago and I was amazed by how historical and ancient some of the landmarks there are. If you are into historical places and Greek mythology, I would definitely suggest adding Cyprus to your travel list.
You can stay at Larnaka or Paphos, two of the biggest and most popular destinations in Cyprus. Beware that the island is famous for wild nightlife, so if you not into that, I would suggest choosing smaller towns or even villages to stay at. Crete, Greece
Another island that will take your breath away is Crete. The largest Greek island is located between North Africa and Greece which makes it a perfect destination for warm weather lovers. Think golden sand beaches, green mountains, historical sights and extraordinary cuisine. Crete is probably one of the most memorable places I’ve ever visited.
You can sunbathe at Elafonisi lagoon, enjoy a day at Balos beach or hike Samaria Gorge to fully explore Crete. I cannot even put into words how gorgeous is this island. You just have to see it for yourself. But if you need a bit of more convincing, here are some of the photos from my summer holiday in Crete.
Croatia
Not an island but not the least is Croatia. The European country which popularity is increasing every year due to its affordability for travellers. I’ve visited Croatia awhile ago, I think it was 7 years ago and it wasn’t that popular back then. However, this country is slowly becoming Europe’s most beautiful place to travel to for the summer holiday.
Beautiful beaches, spectacular resorts, national parks such as Krka, Plitvice that are famous for beautiful lakes and waterfalls. Let’s not forget mountains and a huge variety of hiking routes. What more do you need for a good summer holiday?
