how to use Tailwind Create for Pinterest

Pinterest is by far the best marketing tool to drive traffic to your blog. It can boost your blog traffic in the matter of a few days if you use the right strategy. One of which is making eye-catching Pin designs that will gain more attention on Pinterest with Tailwind Create.

What is Tailwind Create?

Getting started with Tailwind Create for making pins

Once you have your Tailwind account, you can start creating Pin designs with the new Tailwind Create tool. Just to show you how easy it actually is, here’s a quick tutorial on how to use Tailwind Create to make designer-quality Pins that will only take a few minutes to design and schedule.

Step 1: Access Tailwind Create

Once you’ve signed into your Tailwind account, click on Tailwind Create ( looks like the paintbrush icon) in the left menu on the dashboard. Then click Start a New Design button to get started.

Step 2: Set your brand preferences

The first page you’ll see will be for setting your brand preferences. Take a few minutes to fill in the fields with appropriate information. If you will complete this step now, you’ll save lots of time later on when it comes to actual Pin design process.

Here’s what you need to set:

  1. Enter your brand information – name or website URL. This can be applied to your Pin designs to brand them as yours. I usually go for the URL.
  2. Select your brand fonts or use Find a Font Combination. You can set one for your pins main title text and any subtext. Make sure that they are readable.
  3. Set up to 4 brand colours or you can try pre-selected colour combinations fro curated colour palettes section.
  4. Add your logo. Ideally with a transparent background as it can be added on Pin designs.

Once you’ve done, press Save and Continue.

Step 3: Add your Pin information

Now you need to fill primary information about the pin you want to create. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Add Pin destination link. This is the URL of your blog post or specific page you want to link to.
  2. Write the Pin title that you want to appear on your Pin design.
  3. Select photos you want to use. There are three ways you can do this:
    • upload photos from your computer,
    • use stock photos,
    • use photos pulled from your URL.

Then all is left to do is click Create Images button and wait for the magic to happen.

Step 4: Select and edit designs

Once Tailwind Create generates a variety of designer-quality Pins, it’s time to select the ones you like and maybe edit designs a bit if needed.

You can filter Pin designs using different options (content type, industry, pin format) in the top right corner to narrow your selection.

If you find a design you really like, you can mark them as favorite (clicking heart button) and you will be able to easily access them in the future for other pins.

Chances are that you’ll find a design you like but you will want to tweak it a bit to make it look even better. On the left side of the screen, you’ll see all the settings of the pin design that you can modify, including:

  • Adding and removing images
  • Changing colour palette: you can select different colours from your brand or even select palettes generated from your chosen images
  • Edit your title text, font and emphasize any numbers in the title
  • Add a subtitle with different font
  • Add a call to action with its own font style
  • Turn off branding or swap between your URL and logo
  • Update your brand preferences

If you need to make more specific changes, you can modify each individual design by clicking Try on different looks option or click Edit to make manual changes.

The edit button will open up Tailwind Create editor which works like any other design editing app in which you can:

  • Add more text and change its settings (size, weight, colour, alignment, spacing, line height)
  • Drag and move objects around
  • Increase or decrease the size of objects
  • Edit text by double-clicking and typing
  • Delete or duplicate elements
  • Adjust your images for brightness, contrast, saturation and blur

Once you’re happy with your design, you can save the design as a favourite to reuse in future or just click on Save and Go Back to return to other designs.

Step 5: Download or schedule pins with Tailwind

Once you have some Pin designs you like, you can click on +Select to add them to your list. Then in the bottom right corner click Review Your Selection.

You’ll see a quick overview of your selected designs. Now you can either Download or click Go Schedule them on Tailwind.

My top practices for creating attractive pins

After years of using Pinterest, I picked up a few tricks that seem to be working the best when it comes to Pin designs. Some of these are:

  • Include warm colours in your designs – people seem to prefer Pin designs that are in warm colours rather than cold. So think red, yellow tones.
  • Photos with no people – apparently, statistics show that Pins displaying people will get less engagement than Pins without people. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use photos with people at all, just something to play with and see how it performs, I guess.
  • Use bold fonts – you want to make your images stand out and the best practice for that is using bold and big fonts to draw the attention.
  • Try different designs – in the end, you will never know when a Pin will pick up, it depends on a lot of different factors. So the best way forward is to create very different and contrasting Pin designs for each blog post and see what works better.

Final thoughts
