How To Get Rid Of Negativity In Your Life

I once was a very sad person with an attitude that life is horrible and everything is bad and will never get better. I felt sad and depressed most of my life and put myself down every time I got a chance. Now you may be wondering what changed? I started seeing life differently, I got a realisation that I am in control of my life and that I should embrace everything it has to offer. In order to do it, I had to get rid of all negativity my life has been full of. 

That wasn’t an easy part and sure took a lot of strength and time from me. But I did it and I couldn’t be happier about my decision. Now for all of you who want to change something in your life but don’t know where to start, here are few things what you need to do to get rid of that negativity and start living positively.

Free yourself from fake friends

Fake friends and people are, unfortunately, everywhere. And they are not the best ones at spreading positivity in your life. You have to think about which people make you happy and which create unnecessary drama. Then simply say goodbye to those who are only using you or not entirely appreciate your company. Trust me, you won’t lose anything, if anything, you will gain something.

Say ‘no’ when you need it

It’s so easy to say ‘yes’ to everything but the next time you say it, think for a minute whenever you really want to do it. What’s the point in accepting everything if it makes you unhappy? You have a choice over your decisions, so make it a right one. I used to agree with everything people suggested or invited me to even if those activities made me very anxious and unhappy. I stopped doing that, and if I don’t feel comfortable with doing something, I will say no. 

Do activities that you enjoy

The best way to keep yourself content and happy is to enjoy what you are doing. Read more books if you love doing that, watch that movie that you unconditionally love again, take up that class you always wanted, start something you never did but secretly wished to. Do the things you want and find calming. I started playing the guitar as I always wanted to learn how to do it, I started writing mini stories because I loved the idea of expressing my thought with words. Surround yourself with the things you love to do. 

Get a new outlook on life

No matter how many fake friends you will exclude from your life and enjoyable activities you will take, if you will see life as a negative place, you won’t be able to get rid of it. You need to work with yourself and learn to look at life with a little bit of slapdash. Life is full of ups and downs, and there is nothing we can do to change that. But you can accept that, and don’t look at every down like it’s the end of the world. 

Focus on good

Once you come to a realisation that you are going to get hurt in life, you need to start teaching your mind to let go of bad and only focus on good in situations. For example, you got lost in a city. Instead of worrying 100%, look at it like at a great opportunity to explore it and test your orienteering abilities. I got lost a lot with my friends, and instead of freaking out and throwing the day to waste, we had a great laugh and even found few great places. Also, we now have fun memories! It’s same with failed test. Don’t focus on that bad grade, think of it as a stimulus to do better next time.
